At Shires Bakery, we bake with heart and high standards. Our BRCGS-accredited, strictly peanut and tree nut free, PPM 150 facility ensures that every preservative-free cookie is as safe as it is delicious. Shires Bakery is a proud to be a BRCGS certified facility currently maintaining an A+ grade certification. Over recent years, BRCGS has made both announced and unannounced inspection visits, on the strength of which we have also achieved the top grade.

BRCGS notes that its “Global Food Safety Standard has set the benchmark for nearly 25 years… (and) is the most widely accepted food safety standard in the world. Developed with input from industry, it provides a framework to manage product safety, integrity, legality and quality, and the operational controls for these criteria in the food and food ingredient manufacturing, processing and packing industry.”

To achieve certification, facilities must comply with rigorous criteria grouped into seven main areas: 

  1. Senior Management Commitment: Leadership must provide resources and actively foster a "food safety culture".

  2. HACCP Plan: A detailed food safety plan based on Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points to manage biological and chemical risks.

  3. Quality Management System: Documentation for traceability, supplier approval, and incident management.

  4. Site Standards: Requirements for facility design, pest control, and housekeeping.

  5. Product Control: Management of allergens, product testing, and authenticity (food fraud prevention).

  6. Process Control: Ensuring day-to-day operations follow the established safety plans.

  7. Personnel: Training and hygiene protocols for all staff.
